World anti-corruption day is not long ago, former Corruption Eradication Commission Chairman Abraham Samad never missed the momentum to reflect back his journey in combating corruption. One of them by remembering his memory with the late Attorney General Baharuddin Lopa.
Abraham is one of Lopa's favorite students when he was a student at Faculty of Law, Hasanuddin State University. Naturally, if Abraham record many activities of the legend of Indonesian law enforcement in the period of college. "My journey inspired many of his life story," Abraham said when met Sulbarkita.com in Jakarta some time ago.
One of the Lopa stories Abraham remembered was his simplicity. Following Abraham's undergraduate status in mid-1993, the former anti-corruption activist from Makassar visited the residence of Lopa's office in Pondok Bambu, East Jakarta, one afternoon. At that time Lopa served as Director General of Correctional Ministry of Justice and Human Rights and Secretary General of Komnas HAM.
Abraham was shocked that the official house of the legend was not guarded by the security apparatus, even though he was a state official. As a result Abraham bias directly nyelonong to the front door of Lopa's house because the guard post is empty, "I remember he received me with a shirt shirt combined sarong," said Abraham.
In the conversation, Abraham apologized for going straight to Lopa's yard. Abraham was about to excuse himself but there was no officer at the guard post, "It's okay, I told them to go home to sleep well with their families," Abraham mimicked Lopa.
Abraham also means that the house is always unattended. But the young Abraham was struck with Lopa's style since Jakarta was known for a harsh city, "What is to be kept here, my treasure is not there. Let me be taken care of by Allah, "said Lopa as imitated by Abraham.
In the meeting, Lopa gave much advice to Abraham. One of them when Abraham declared a career as a lawyer, "As a lawyer you can be wrong, just do not lie, never be a jerk," said Lopa to Abraham.
Lopa's statement is often recalled in Abraham's memory in the profession as a lawyer. Even so when he dared to take any risks in leading the Supreme Court Corruption Eradication Agency, "His words are like a filter for me."
But Abraham admitted that it is not easy to define every meaningful Lopa advice. One of them when Lopa said; if measuring something measure with your shirt buttons. Abraham suspected the meaning of Lopa's advice is to always listen to the conscience, "But to this day I have not found a definite answer to that message." (TS)
