Mamuju, Sulbarkita.com -- Regional Police (Polda) of West Sulawesi Province examined 4 people in the case of spreading false news or Hoaks about child abduction, Monday, January 27, 2020. The news was spread through a Facebook (Fb) account on Sunday, January 26, 2020 .
"They are SAF initials, 22 years old, IE, 25 years old, AA, 39 years old and SR," Head of the Cyber Crime Sub Directorate (Kasubdit) of West Sulawesi Police, Commissioner Agung Budi Leksono told Sulbarkita.com, in his office on Monday.
The incident began when the bus from Pasangkayu to Makassar stopped at the Simbuang Terminal to rest. One passenger took his child to the restroom to defecate. But the child cried because his father left him outside the restroom. "Moreover, the bus runs, so he chases the bus by carrying his child. Suddenly residents around yelled at him kidnapping children. Residents were overwhelmed," said Jamal, 33, a Simbuang resident who witnessed the incident.
This incident had caused a commotion among residents around the Simbuang Terminal, including the SAF and IE who were not far from their homes. "They immediately posted the news. While AA and SR shared their posts," Kompol Agung said.
For their actions, they can be charged under article 28 of law number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE) with a maximum penalty of 6 years in prison. Because the post made people uneasy and did not match the facts. "We are taking measurable steps in the police by calling the person concerned to conduct deepening. While this is the case under investigation," Kompol Agung said.
The perpetrator has apologized to residents, especially Mamuju through his Fb account. Likewise the police with the truth clarification spread the news. "We are obliged to wear the relevant report," said Kompol Agung. "The evidence secured by the police is in the form of Fb accounts and the perpetrators' smart phones."
Kompol Agung urged residents to be careful using social media and respond to the issue of kidnapping children who are rife. "This is a decisive action as well as educational material for citizens carried out by the police," he said.
