Polman, Sulbarkita.com -- In order to prevent its citizens from becoming illegal workers abroad, the Polman Regency Government opens the registration of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) on Tuesday, February 18 to Friday, March 20, 2020.
The Head of the Polman Transmigration and Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Manpower Office, Abdul Salam, said this policy was a solution to the rise of illegal workers from Polman abroad, especially in Malaysia. These conditions make the workers often experience problems.
"We will cooperate with the Malaysian royal government in terms of manpower," Abdul Salam said after the PMI consolidation, protection and prevention meeting, in the Polman Regent office pattern room, Tuesday, 18 February 2020.
The former head of the Polman Forest Service said that there were already 12 companies that were ready to collaborate to help the Polman community migrate to Malaysia. That is why the Regency Government dared to free their transportation.
"PMI candidates are only charged medical checkup fees. While the departure costs are borne by the Regency Government," said Abdul Salam.
For this initial stage, the Polman Regency Government will send 1,000 people to Malaysia via the inaugural International shipping lane from the Port of Silopo, District of Binuang to the Port of Sandakan, Sabah, Malaysia. The upcoming President Joko Widodo to Polman was invited to take part in their departure on March 24.
The Expert Staff of the Governor of West Sulawesi in the Field of Labor, Firdaus said that the presence of the government was responding to PMI's problems so that the Polman community would be comfortable as workers in Malaysia. He said, by becoming PMI, the people would get protection and good income.
"If departing illegally, of course, the government will also be troubled. In principle, the government does not order and does not prohibit, but calls for the community to leave officially. The documents will be processed properly," said Firdaus.
Firdaus said that the standard salary of PMI departing through the official route was Rp. 3 Million according to the lowest wage standard in Malaysia, with working hours from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM. "Companies that are ready to accommodate the Polman community are private companies that are under the control of the Chief Minister there," he said.
