In the survey, West Sulawesi, Gorontalo and West Papua only had 0.3 percent internet user contributions. While the highest contribution of internet users is South Sulawesi, followed by Sulewesi Tengah, and Southeast Sulawesi (see graph below).
APJII is one of the non-profit survey institutions in Indonesia. This institution, which has been established since 1996, has issued a new survey every year about the development of internet use in the country. The APJII survey is a reference for various groups to find out the development of internet use in Indonesia.
West Sulawesi is also ranked lowest in the survey of penetration of internet users in each province of Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua based on the number of residents in each province.
Sulbar mentioned that only 30% was obtained. The West Sulawesi survey was very far behind the penetration of internet users in Papua which reached 80% and West Papua and Maluku, which were 60% respectively.
APJII Secretary General Henri Kasyfi said that one of the reasons for the low internet penetration in West Sulawesi was because there were at least the number of Base Transceiver Station (BTS) data after North Maluku. "As of semester I / 2018, there are 635 3G and 4G BTS in the province," as reported by Bisnis.com
The APJII survey was conducted on 5900 samples with interview methods and questionnaires. For the national scale, the penetration of internet users in 2018 reached 171.17 million from the total population in Indonesia, namely 264.16 million people. That number rose 27.9 million from the same survey in 2017.
