Habsi said that the district head was currently collecting data about the alleged status of the Malamber Island. "The data was taken from the village head and community leaders who were there," he said.
Malamber Island was in the spotlight because Bala Balakang sub-district head, Juara said the island was sold to North Penajam Paser Regent, Abdul Gafur Mas'ud for Rp 2 billion. But Gafur who is a descendant of the Mandar tribe through his lawyer denied the Champion's statement. "That is not true that AGM (Abdul Gafur Mas'ud) bought Malamber Island," said Agus Amri, Abdul Gafur's lawyer as reported by LKBN Antara.
Malamber Island is included in the Bala Balakang Islands. This island is located west of Mamuju, which is between Sulawesi and Kalimantan. The distance is about 90 nautical miles or 166.68 km from the Port of Kasiwa, Mamuju. To get there, it takes about 10 hours to use a fishing boat.
From the data collected by Sulbarkita.com, the island is divided into 2, namely Malamber Besar Island and Malamber Kecil Island. The two islands are fused when the tide recedes and will be divided in half when the tide is rising. The island is inhabited but there is no official release explaining the population on Malamber Island. Whereas in the Mandar language, Malamber means long.
The head of the Mamuju Regional Police Criminal Investigation Unit, AKP Syamsuriansyah, claimed he had also heard the camat's statement. "The subdistrict head directly said that there was an island sale and purchase transaction, the camat was not a police statement, indeed the camat said so," he told Sulbarkita.com, in his office, Jalan KS Tubun, Rimuku Village, Mamuju District, Monday June 22, 2020.
