Polewali Mandar, Sulbarkita.com -- Convicted of corruption in procurement of solar lights Polewali Mandar (Polman) Andi Baharuddin Patajangi is now breathing free air. Former Head of Village Administration at the Community Empowerment and Village Administration Office, Polman Regency officially left Class II B Correctional Institution (Lapas) since Friday, January 24, 2020.
"He was released after we received an excerpt from the Makassar Court which stated that he was acquitted of all charges," Abdul Waris, class II B prison chief, Abdul Waris said when contacted via cellphone, Monday 27 January.
The Mamuju Corruption Court (Tipikor) sentenced Andi Baharuddin to two years in prison and a fine of Rp. 50 million on October 31, 2019. Baharuddin and a number of other defendants were deemed proven to have harmed the country up to Rp. 2.9 billion. After a month of detention in Mamuju Lapas, Baharuddin was later transferred to Lapol class II B Polewali.
Not accepting the verdict, Baharuddin filed an appeal memory to the Makassar Court. The court judge stated Andi Baharuddin was innocent and had to be released. The Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Polman, Andi Bebas Manggazali said that he had just received the news of the release of Andi Baharuddin.
