Polman, Sulbarkita.com -- The Directorate General of Sea Transportation through the Class II Port Management Unit (UPP) of Tanjung Silopo, Binuang District, Polman Regency held a clean sea and beach movement.
The movement is a series of commemoration of national transportation day with the theme "Clean Sea Makes Baper". This social activity was carried out on the Silopo coast, Mirring Village, Binuang District, Thursday, 12 September 2019.
The clean sea and beach movement was held simultaneously in 260 ports throughout Indonesia, the implementation of which was adjusted to the time of Central, West and East Indonesia.
Before the activity took place, the participants first read the Surah Al-Fatihah to the late President of the third Republic of Indonesia, Baharuddin Jusuf Habibie. Head of UPP Class II Tanjung Silopo Office, H. Ilham Saenong in his speech said that this activity was carried out due to the fact that Indonesia is the second largest contributor of plastic waste in the world.
Based on data from the Indonesian Plastic Industry Association (Inaplas) and the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), plastic waste in Indonesia reaches 64 million tons per year. 3.2 million tons is plastic waste that is thrown into the sea.
"For this reason, the Indonesian government through the Ministry of Transportation is determined to reduce plastic waste at sea by 70 percent by 2025," Ilham said in his remarks.
The former Head of UPP Morowali, Central Sulawesi hopes that through this activity all Syahbandar UPP Tanjung Silopo employees can invite the community to love the preservation of the marine environment. This movement, said Ilham, invited port loading and unloading workers (TKBM).
Relevant agencies and surrounding communities to participate in reducing the impact of pollution and environmental damage, especially at sea. "The target for breaking Muri's record is the central authority. We only carry out its activities, inviting the public not to throw garbage in any of its main places at sea," Ilham said.
In the same place, Head of the Polman Environment and Forestry (DLHK) Office, Rahmi, appreciated the Ministry of Transportation's efforts for his concern about the threat of environmental pollution, especially on the coast and the sea.
"I am grateful that the Ministry of Transportation cares about that. Here there are more than 60 janitors we call to participate," he explained.
Rahmi added, at this time his party had built a garbage bank so as to facilitate organic and inorganic waste sorting. "We are also trying to reduce waste from rivers flowing into the sea," he said.
The clean sea and beach movement was attended by participants from the Department of Land Transportation, DLHK and Polairud Polman Polman.
